Edward and Kaitlyn's Surprise Proposal at Air Field Falls!

As a DFW photographer, I have the opportunity to photograph so many amazing couples. This time, I had the great pleasure of capturing Edward and Kaitlyn’s surprise engagement. This super romantic surprise proposal happened at Air Field Falls in Fort Worth, and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Since Edward isn’t from the DFW area, he relied heavily on my location and logistic suggestions. We collaborated closely to make sure that this moment was vey special for Kaitlyn. Edward and Kaitlyn love nature, so it wasn’t too far of a stretch for Edward to plan a walk to the falls. Before the session, I had a few phone calls with Edward so he would know exactly where to walk and how to position himself and Kaitlyn for the best photos. He followed my instructions perfectly!

I’ve known Kaitlyn her entire life and she was one of my first highschool senior portrait clients a few years ago! It was truly an honor to have been asked to photograph this surprise proposal and to be there to capture the first few photos of them as an engaged couple! When Edward popped the question, I had my camera ready to capture her reaction. With my long lens attached, I snapped these stunning close up images that look like I was standing right next to them!

Of course, I had to be extremely sneaky. As they hiked up, I pretended to be photographing my son and his close friend; so that Kaitlyn wouldn’t be suspicious if she happened to see a photographer hanging around the area. I was so nervous that I would miss focus on the big moment. I just reminded myself that Edward was surely a lot more nervous than I was, so I was able to calm down and just click my shutter as the events unfolded. Everything worked out perfectly!

After the proposal, Edward guided Kaitlyn through the trees to meet up with me and let her in on our secret plans! When she saw me, the biggest smile spread across her face! I’m not sure that the proposal completely surprised Kaitlyn (women’s intuition), but she had no idea that a photographer would be there to capture everything.

Since Edward planned a nice dinner reservation for after their “nature walk”, Kaitlyn knew to dress up a bit. She looked FANTASTIC! Seriously, she couldn’t have looked more amazing if she had known this surprise ahead of time.

Air Field Falls was the perfect location for their intimate moment. This oasis has such a tranquil ambiance, just perfect for a romantic getaway. After the proposal, we spent about five minutes taking some fantastic couple portraits before they headed off to their dinner date to celebrate.

These lovebirds are just the cutest!

Congratulations, you two! I’m so happy for you both!

Needless to say, this surprise proposal was a huge success. I can’t wait to share more photos from their engagement session at Fort Worth Botanical Gardens in next week’s blog, and stay tuned for Kaitlyn’s bridal portraits coming next month!
